I didn’t have a blog idea this week. I thought a little bit of following up on last week, but I don’t really have much new to say on the subject.
I was leafing through my notebook, a bit of a “Commonplace Book” but a little more journal-like, and found a note about reading David Sax’s “Revenge of the Analog.” I noted down the chapter “Revenge of Print,” which in several places mentions the tactile feeling of reading a magazine — turning the pages, smelling the ink, putting it down to rediscover later — all of which resonated with me.
The thing about the chapter that distressed me was the print publications being highlighted were high-quality, “bespoke” publications that cost much more than large volume, mass-market magazines. Far be for me to criticize the free market, but it seems that the future of print is for the wealthy.
The rest of us will need to be content with “content.”
