I don’t know how daily bloggers do it. I never intended to write posts daily, but those bloggers must have way more time than I do. Or they are just overflowing with material. I think I wouldn’t mind having either state. Or both.

Undirected creative frustration
Watching digital spaghetti’s interview with Natalie Lynn about cinematic video storytelling. I was actually almost brought to tears seeing this poignant, dark, top-director-feature-film style video content by a person who is SO young (to me, anyway). She has this natural ability to evoke a mood primarily by editing, and it seems almost instinctive. And one…
Is eating ethical?
I don’t have an answer to the prompt. But I was thinking about this the other day. If I buy something like coffee, or chocolate, or meat, I am potentially supporting the exploitation or enslavement of people in the developing world. Am I part of the problem? I have at times chosen “fair trade” items…
A big, old, worn out kid
I don’t know exactly what it means to be a kid at heart, but when my wife says it about me, it’s usually because I’ve been excited by wonder, novelty, or curiosity (or all three). Adults reaction to anything — or lack of — is because it’s not new, it’s something they see or do…
Hostage history
I think the earliest historical event I remember was probably the Iran hostage crisis. I think because it went on for so long and there was so much media coverage, it stuck with me as something important. Of course, there was no 24-hour news cycle back then, so coverage was not nearly as breathlessly hysterical…
Boring answer: traffic conditions for traveling to my appointment today. I literally just closed that tab and switched to this one. Non-boring answer: How to get a service running in a docker container to talk to a service running on the host PC. Because, well, I can’t get the app in the container to talk…
“The Magic Garden” was these two hippy ladies that told stories and sang songs and was probably one of my favorite shows when I was very small, kindergarten age or so. There were stories written on leaves and silly puppets, very standard kiddy fare. I liked it far more than Sesame Street or Mr Rogers….
…but I’m neither healthy, wealthy, or wise.
I set my alarm to wake up early in the morning. It’s quiet, no one else is awake. It’s the only “alone” time that I get, so sometimes it’s used productively, for writing (not often enough, empty blog) or planning projects. Other times I might just watch YouTube or catch up on an episode of…
Drawing and dragons
The answer to this prompt depends on how far back you go. When I was small I would say Harold and the Purple Crayon, in which Harold uses his purple crayon to draw himself having all kinds of adventures. As a kid who liked drawing, it gave me — permission? license? — to insert myself…
An evening on the verandah
That title is actually a private joke between my wife and I. Our back deck is about 10×12, so just enough room to swing a cat (no animals were harmed in the making of this comment). It’s just enough space for a grill, two chairs, and a table with umbrella shade. We make it sound…
